Meredith’s Journey to Homeownership
When Meredith A. joined ChooseWell Communities in 2021, she brought with her a fierce love for her daughter Mariah, a deep desire for change, and the courage to build something new. Like so many young mothers we’ve had the honor to walk alongside, Meredith’s first step was choosing sobriety — a commitment she didn’t take lightly.
“When I committed to sobriety, I knew I had to put that first before EVERYTHING,” said Meredith. “ChooseWell helped me do that and I am forever grateful.”
Meredith’s journey was one of steady progress and persistent grace. She embraced recovery with humility and grit, showing up to do the next right thing day after day. Through our partnership with the Louisville Metro Housing Authority, Meredith received a Section 8 voucher, a resource that provided much-needed stability and safety for her and Mariah. For Meredith, that voucher wasn’t just housing assistance — it was a foundation.
Years later, thanks to her hard work and continued growth, Meredith did something extraordinary: she transitioned from renter to homeowner through LMHA’s Section 8 Homeownership Program. In a milestone moment for the city, Meredith was celebrated as Louisville Metro’s 500th homebuyer through the program.
For a woman who once walked through crisis with nothing but determination and hope, this achievement was deeply personal.
“All I’ve ever wanted was a home for me and my daughter,” she shared.
Mariah has grown up in the warmth and safety of ChooseWell Communities. She’s witnessed her mother heal, grow, and now thrive — not just with a roof over their heads, but with a future Meredith built one step at a time.
At ChooseWell Communities, we believe in the power of community, recovery, and opportunity. Meredith’s story is proof of what happens when these come together — and of what’s possible when a mother chooses well.
