Why Walk Through the Wild?
Each year, we include a note in our Walk Through the Wild communications highlighting things like numbers served, annual revenue, and the percentage of funding that goes directly to programming.
Those things matter. But our families are more than numbers. Their impact is immeasurable. The ripple effects of sobriety are wide and deep, touching families, workplaces, and entire communities for generations. So this year, we’d like to talk about ripples.
Take Kreshnik. When the mother of his child died in childbirth, he spiraled into addiction. Losing custody of his son sent him deeper down a path of deep despair. Kreshnik entered ChooseWell, did the hard work that was asked of him, became employed, earned his master mechanic status, secured his own home, and gradually regained custody of his son. He graduated from ChooseWell, earned his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and now works for TARC—making more money than he ever has in his life. Today, he helps support a new wife, her children, and his own son.
Or Josie. Her addiction led to the need for open-heart surgery in her twenties. She entered ChooseWell living in transitional housing, unemployed, and sharing custody of her daughter. While continuing her community-based sobriety program with us, Josie recently earned Employee of the Month at Jewish Hospital—out of more than 1,300 employees. She even got to meet and have lunch with the CEO. Our Josie is the best one!
And then there’s Connie, one of our graduates who lost her seven-year-old daughter in a car wreck this past year. Our community wrapped around her, and even after the unimaginable loss of a child, Connie remains sober. That is the strength of a compassionate, connected community.
Your support matters in these stories, because none of them exist without it.
Since 2014, ChooseWell Communities has grown into a trusted organization that continues to show up. You believe in us—and that belief ripples outward into our families and our community. For that, we can’t thank you enough.
Sponsoring the 2026 Walk Through the Wild provides your organization a meaningful and direct way to expand ChooseWell Communities’ ripple effect, showing parents with histories of addiction that you stand with them as they transform their families.
We hope to see you at the Louisville Nature Center at 10 AM on Saturday, October 17 for our 9th annual Walk Through the Wild!
